Effective Communication Paper

Effective Communication Paper Effective Communication Paper Effective Communication Paper Debra L. Penta HCS 325 January 13,2014 Sandra Marken Effective Communication Paper Trends in virtually every workplace require employees to connect with co-workers and people who work at different locations in a professional and cohesive manner. Our employees are being asked to add to their job descriptions in order to facilitate what is needed to be achieved during the course of the day. Just as job descriptions change periodically, so do the requirements. One the biggest areas of change is how your organization may choose to communicate and share knowledge with their employees and their vendors as well as other people who come into contact with your organization (Lombardi, 2007). I have selected the Matrix Model to pattern the organization after. While I can see where it may be difficult to use with two managers who could disagree a lot, I think of the other models, this is the one which would allow the most lateral growth. By that, I mean that even though you may have two people who do not get along, hopefully they would put the best interest of the organization first. By lateral growth I mean that the managers should still do their jobs and set up their teams to meet their objectives. Not only that, but the managers need to continue to be supportive, clear, and honest with what they expect from their teams (Lombardi, 2007). As a team member I would find it much easier to work with a knowledge of what I was supposed to do as an employee and it would make it would it make for a pleasant work environment if my managers were approachable. To keep their team informed the mangers should plan to hold weekly meeting at which any new information could be shared w ith their teams. In order to make these meetings beneficial to the managers they could apply the Round Robin Technique to extract suggestions from hesitant employees. The Round Robin Technique is a technique that can be verbal or non-verbal or both. A question that may be asked from a manager can be answered verbally or written on a piece of paper, either way it is allows people who do not generally get involved with participating in meetings the chance to be heard (Lombardi, 2007). Maybe down the road when they become comfortable with how the meetings are run will no longer feel the necessity to write their answers down but will communicate verbally. The technique that I found that was the least successful was the use of sticky notes posted here and there. I don’t find it to be very logical. I believe that if the information is imperative and important enough to be communicated immediately the use of a smart phone and a text would be appropriate. I also think if that fails, a phone call could be the next course of action. Stress also plays a large part of workplace annoyances. Some of the ways a manager can help their employee’s with stress is make them aware of the fact that you are aware of their stresses and provide some suggestions in the form of posters in the break room. 1.- Realize when you’re stressed, recognize your particular stress response, and become familiar with sensual cues that can rapidly calm and energize you. The best way to reduce stress quickly is through the senses; through sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. But each person responds differently to sensory input, so you need to try to find things that are soothing to you (Seagal, 2013). 2.-Stay connected to your internal emotional experience so you

The Importance of International Nursing Experiences

The Importance of International Nursing Experiences International Nursing Experiences are a great way to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the nursing field and how it’s applied in different cultures and environments and there is a strong need for nurses in underdeveloped countries so participating in such an experience fills an important void. While having a thorough understanding of medicine and its effect on the human body is importing in nursing, so is applying it to the wide variety of experiences that different people go through. It can be an enriching experience for anybody who partakes, in fact, research has shown that nurses who study abroad come back to their homes with increased confidence and great sense of cultural competence, so it is greatly beneficial to nurses of all levels who hope to improve their skills within the profession.Below are some of the many benefits to an international nursing experience.Understanding How One’s Environment Affects Their HealthTraveling internationally to volu nteer in hospitals or homes is arguably the best way to learn about how different environments affect our health and the quality of care available in less-developed areas. While nurses and patients in the western world have ample supply of basic human rights like access to clean water sources and sanitation equipment, those in less developed parts of the world are not always so fortunate. Creating that visual connection and shaking the hands of those who live in it can greatly enhance a person’s appreciation for the tools and experiences they typically have at home and their advantages in the health field.Additionally, as their understanding grows, and they are made aware of the conditions in which other people are living, they can better understand how to treat illnesses common to the area. For example, people who predominantly use wood burning stones might have difficulty with their respiratory health, and seeing that in person will assist nurses and encourage them to consid er these types of environmental factors when treating patients.Awareness of Region-Specific Health ConditionsAs touched on above, getting an honest, true look at the environments that others live in serves of great importance in understanding how some health conditions arise. Many diseases and illnesses are region-specific, and while it is possible to learn about them from home, it is much more effective to see them first hand.Nurses who travel frequently will end up with a much more extensive library of region-specific conditions and illnesses than one who doesn’t, and they’ll be better prepared to treat patients with those diseases given their first-hand experience. This is greatly tied to learning about region-specific medicines and natural-plant remedies used by the region’s residents.By meeting with local residents and learning about their cultures, nurses can gain valuable insight to effective natural remedies that thrive the region’s unique ecosyst em, and gain a better understanding of medicines and treatments that are already showing some promise.Cultural AwarenessThe diverse cultures of the world make streamlining medical treatments challenging for nurses, and even more so when they lack awareness of the differences between various cultures. Without a thorough understanding of a patient’s culture, nurses may not be able to fully or competently care for them. Some of the factors worth considering when discussing competent care include language and dietary preferences and even cultural beliefs. There may even be something physically different in some cultures genetic makeup which would be resistant to westernized pharmaceuticals, so an increased understanding in culture can go a long way in enhancing patient care. Through international nursing experiences, cultural appreciation is broadened and developed thereby creating more empathetic nurses with a better sense of judgement.Additionally, nursing abroad encourages nurs es to learn new languages which then bridges the communication gap and reduces the risk of improperly caring for a patient or offering them a treatment option that may be further destructive to their health.Sensitivity TrainingMany nurses feel more comfortable treating patients of the same culture because they’re more familiar with the types of communication they use and the level of care they are used to.By training nurses to better assess and evaluate treatment plans to meet the needs of people of all walks of life, they are able to better create their action plans for care. Many newly graduated nursing studies have said that they don’t feel prepared to meet multicultural demands after completing their formal education, so diving into an international nursing program is a great way to prepare them for the diverse patient group they will be caring for in the future. What Is Gained from an International Nursing ExperienceAside from getting the opportunity to get out of t heir comfort zones and exploring a new part of the world, international nursing experiences greatly assist in developing highly qualified, well informed nurses and encourages them to further develop their skills and learning.By the time a nurse has completed an international nursing experience, they will have a significantly greater understanding of new cultures, unfamiliar environments, and region-specific health conditions that they may have never been exposed to otherwise. These skills can serve to make any nurse a more effective health care worker, regardless of where they decide to call their home. And isn’t that really what all nurses strive for?Author bio:Jennifer Clarke is a financial adviser with more than 4 years of experience in the healthcare area. Local landfills and their effect on the environment Research Paper

Local landfills and their effect on the environment - Research Paper Example The City mainly handles its waste management by contracting them out to Local Waste Services. There are some local waste services in the city that operate some landfills, but Grove City majorly allowed SWACO to handle its waste management procedures, which involves the collection and disposal of solid waste at the Franklin County Landfill (Grove City 2011). Apart from SWACO, other waste management companies that are used by people in Grove City 2 include Tri-County Industries, Inc., and Franklin Road Recycling Solution, both of which also operate landfills. Studies have shown that one of the problems of the 21st century in the United States is waste—the country is going through a phase of mountainous waste-production, which is estimated to be millions of tons of waste yearly (Rahm 1-2). As a result of this, city administrators often find themselves at the crossroads to design a functional process for collecting and disposing of these waste materials. For many years now, landfi lls have been the appropriate systems for the disposal of waste in the United States. ... the positive effects of SWACO landfill admired by the Grove City administration are highlighted in the remaining part of this paper, comparing them with that of other local waste services. Tri-County Industries handle the waste materials for residential, industrial and commercial clients located in Grove City, Ohio. The company utilizes its big size and years of experience to help clients cut the cost of disposing of their waste in landfill (Tri-County Industries, Inc. 2011). But Tri-County Industries Landfill has some negative impacts on 3 Grove City residents: according to a recent court case against Tr-County, its landfills located at Pine and Liberty have strong bad odor, lighting issues and noises could be heard at night (Allied News 2011). Similarly, Frank Road Recycling Solutions, for over 75 years, has provided its customers in Grove City, Ohio with good waste-disposal and recycling solutions. These solutions were aimed at helping them do away with their operational waste and protect the environment (Frank Road Recycling Solutions 2011). But Frank Road Recycling Solutions Landfill does not provide the green opportunities offered by SWACO Landfill. Therefore, both Tri-County Industries, Inc., and Frank Road Recycling Solutions do not match the positive effects of SWACO as described below. Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) was created as a waste-management agency with other 51 solid waste districts by Ohio General Assembly in 1989. SWACO was specifically established to help Ohio residents proactively dispose of their waste materials (SWACO 2011). And SWACO landfill provides the following positive effects in Grove City, Ohio. Solid waste materials are disposed of at SWACO landfill while customers are strongly encouraged to recycle some recyclable

Health studies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Health studies - Essay Example The community’s aim is to practice justice, equality and mutual respect, which should be long-term solutions (Garrard, 2011, p. 45). Community development projects have needs such as drainage improvements, getting rid of street decay and protect personal property. The main problem comes when the city’s budget does not consider repairing old houses, but instead puts new infrastructure in the community. For instance, a lot of the infrastructure is taken care of community development programs (Creager, Beckman & Loscalzo, 2013). Recreational parks for the disabled and nursing homes for the old are mostly taken care of the community developments. Many societies prefer community groups because individuals come together and talk about issues affecting them as a group or community (Andreoli, Cecil, & Carpenter, 2010, p. 125). In such a way, problems are handled than would be a personal matter. The program gets funding from the government or sponsored, and that is how the community develops. Community development increases job opportunities, reduces crime because the percentage of housing is high thus decreasing h omelessness. The community gets an education through the allowances in the program (Fillit, 2010). There is nothing as powerful as an educated society for it eradicates so many problems like poverty. Social exclusion is a major problem in our global societies’. In U.K, for instance, social exclusions such as drug use, racism, teenage pregnancies and crime and disorder partnerships are witnessed on a daily basis. Social exclusion can happen to anyone, but those with low income, the disabled and in dysfunctional families are more at risk (Plant & Böhm, 2010, p. 109). Care Insights is an example of a U.K based community development that focuses on social exclusion. Its primary aim is empowering the community by maintaining redistribution of resources, preventing conflict to enhance poverty reduction and finally helps in food security.

Deinstitutionalizing the Mentally lll, Blessing or Curse Essay Example for Free

Deinstitutionalizing the Mentally lll, Blessing or Curse Essay The deinstitutionalization of the mentally ill was originally and idealistically portrayed as a liberating, humane policy alternative to the restrictive care in large state supported hospitals. It was supposed to help these individuals regain freedom and empower themselves through responsible choices and actions. Due to many funding issues, stiff opposition from communities, and ill-equipped patients, who are unable to live independently, this idealized program, has not always been a blessing for the communities or the patients. In the early 1960s, President John F. Kennedy signed into law a bill that began the movement known as deinstitutionalization. The purpose of the new law was to put an end to the tendency to warehouse people with mental illnesses, as well as those with developmental disabilities, including the mentally and physically handicapped. The idea was to move the less severely mentally ill from those large institutions into the community, where local treatment centers would be established to provide them with medical, psychiatric, and social support they need to be able to live and function. see more:smartphones boon or bane Some believe that deinstitutionalization has been and continues to be successful. Perhaps one of the brightest spots of the effects of deinstitutionalization is that the mentally ill have gained a greatly increased measure of liberty (Curtis, 2008). Some persons, despite their illnesses, have realized a certain degree of normalization in their daily activities. Some live independently, and some are productively employed, achievements that were relatively rare in the days before deinstitutionalization. For these people, deinstitutionalization must be regarded as a positive development (Warner, 1995). Deinstitutionalization, which has now become a synonym for neglect, was supposed to be about creating a new system of services and supports that would allow people with mental illness and mental retardation to thrive in their communities outside of hospital settings during all of the times when they did not need hospital services (Sheth, 2009). An estimated 4. 5 million Americans today suffer from the severest forms of brain disorder, schizophrenia and manic-depressive illness and out of 4. million 1. 8 million, or 40 percent are not receiving any treatment on any given day, resulting in homelessness, incarceration, and violence; one of the reasons for this condition is a failure of the deinstitutionalization policy (Fact Sheet, Treatment Advocacy Centre).? The U. S. Department of Justice estimates that over a quarter of a million mentally ill individuals are currently incarcerated in the U. S. state and federal prison system constituting between eight and 17 percent of the entire prison population (Martin, 2011). The deinstitutionalization policy, which has been improperly implemented, is acting like a misguided missile, causing the helpless and defenseless inmates of the mental hospitals to beg and roam on roads and footpaths; to take refuge in shelter homes and beggar’s homes; to starve on streets and eat from garbage bins; they are jeered in society and physically, verbally and sexually assaulted in alleys; they languish in jails and suffers in prisons; They shiver in cold and simmer in heat; they sleep on a bed of earth with a blanket of sky. We have shifted problems of mental hospitals to the streets, jails and shelter homes. While making backyards of our mental hospitals beautiful, we have made our streets ugly. The process of deinstitutionalization has turned deadly. There seems to be some truth in a saying that deinstitutionalization caused people to die with their rights on (Sheth, 2009). The deinstitutionalization movement of the mentally ill had a noble aim, but failed to achieve it. The solution is complicated but it is not however, unattainable. Train the police officers and emergency responders on how to identify the mentally ill patients and direct them into available treatment facilities. The government can also fund jail and prison programs that screen, evaluate and treat mentally ill inmates. Establish mental health courts, more mental hospitals with adequate staffing, start more day care centers, and have more adequate affordable housing. These solutions, of course, all require funding from a government with spending that is already out of control and on the brink of bankruptcy. But the truth is, by helping the seriously mentally ill, we help ourselves.

Wireless Communication Security Essay -- Research Paper Technology Pap

Wireless Communication Security Abstract In today’s society advances in technology are growing rapidly. Businesses and people are taking full advantage of the improving ways of transmitting data internally and externally. One of the mediums today in transmitting data is via wireless communication systems. It is obvious that this data will need to be secure for many reasons. These will be the questions I will pose in this paper. Will this be a secure means of transmitting data? How sure are we of the means of security that we have available to us as consumers of this technology? The answers to these questions will be in a form of an opinion that I will have developed myself. I am not qualified to give a determination. I hope one day with continuing my education and work experience I will develop that qualification. Introduction This research paper is on a very important topic (Wireless Communication Security). The security of wireless communication is becoming more critical in today’s society and its future as well. While the technology is rapidly growing, businesses and people are eager to embrace the technology and use it to become more competitive in the business world and even more convenient with daily use in the personal setting. The question concerning this fast growing technology will be the issue of security and the integrity of the data being transferred over these systems. In most cases, having this data seen by someone other than the client that it is intended for could be detrimental in both cases (professionally and personally). For example if you have certain financial account numbers that are exposed, this could result in catastrophic problems. ‘Raw’ by Scott Monk Essay

‘Raw’ is a novel written by an Australian author Scott Monk for young teenagers to explore an alternative approach to the juvenile justice system, one that supports and encourages young offenders to take responsibility for their actions. Monk uses significant episodes, contrast in characterisation and a range of language techniques to show the central character journey as he learns to take responsibility for himself. Monks plot is based on a theme which is action – packed with violent episodes such as Tyson and his gang attacking Brett and cutting of all of his hair. As well, it is based on a love triangle where Brett is put in between his new love interest Caitlyn and his ex-girlfriend Rebecca. It also follows a journey theme where Brett changes once he travelled an 800 km journey from Sydney to the Farm. The plot is episodic and highlights the change in Brett. Episodes which show this change and that it is sometimes difficult for him include, walking away from f ighting Mr Douglass, not letting his anger control him, â€Å"he’d lost one fight but won another† As well as apologising to Caitlyn realising that he was wrong and wanting to fix his mistakes, â€Å"And he’d learnt that the hard way that love couldn’t be owned† One main character was used to show the theme of a troubled individual and society’s way of dealing with them. Monk writes in third person but with Brett’s perspective. He also used many secondary characters who are a part of Brett’s journey such as, his love interest Caitlyn, friends Josh, Sam, Robbie and enemy Tyson. Monk also cleverly contrasted characters to highlight the aspects of society, for example, Sam treats the kids like normal citizens, not criminals and tries to help them rebuild their lives, which is contrast to Mr Douglass who makes assumptions about Brett and all of the boys at the farm, not treating them as normal citizens of society and not allowing them to show that people can change. Monk also used Brett’s developing relationships to show his slow growth into someone who has something to offer society. For example, his relationship with Caitlyn teaches him that you need to treat people with love and respect to receive it, he also learnt that other people’s wants and needs are just as important as his own. His relationship with josh allows him to understand  that someone will always have it worse then you and that whatever is happening only you can control and change your future. â€Å"Just remember, Brett, only you can change your life.† The language used in the novel is directed at Monks youth audience. He uses colloquial language, ‘when Brett calls the police (pigs)’ as well as lots of direct speech to show the interactions between Brett and the other characters, (Josh) â€Å"I saw you perving at Caitlyn† (Brett) â€Å"what! Is that her name?† Monk uses descriptive language builds up the imagery of his characters, â€Å"The man looked like an old cowboy or one of those guys who drive cattle, a stockman† As well as the settings used, imagery is sometimes very symbolic for example, Brett leaves Sydney and arrives at the farm in a paddy wagon then 3 months later leaves back to Sydney in the paddy wagon but as a changed man. Monks presentation of the farm as a juvenile detention centre shows his audience another side of this issue. There is minimal security, few rules where Sam and Mary treat everyone as individuals â€Å"don’t call Brett a no-hopper!† Monks theme of the individual being responsible for his/her own actions is shown well. His characters show that when they make bad decisions there are repercussions. For example, Rebecca’s decisions ruined her future, and Tyson’s bad choices ends him in jail. At the start of the novel Brett was consistently making bad choices but by the end of the novel Brett is making good choices, which is shown when he walks away from Mr Douglass. The epilogue of the novel shows the result of this idea when Sam asks if he’s learned anything and he realises he has, â€Å"lots of stuff, like friendship. Trust. Love. And loss.† Even though he is going back to Sydney, in the same paddy wagon he came in, to go to a ‘proper’ detention centre, Monk shows that Brett has changed through his thoughts at the end, ‘He was young and he was going to start again’ Scott Monk wanted his readers to know that if you are in a bad situation only you can change that, but having people around you who offer a second chance can be vital to prove that you can be a good person and you can change for the better.

Martin Luther 95 Theses Essay

The Ninty-Five Theses was written by Martin Luther in 1517 and is broadly regarded as the major catalyst for the Protestant Reformation. Martin Luther was an ambiguous German monk and radiant theologian. Martin Luther started a rebellion against the church’s authority which caused the collapse of religious unity of Christendom. The Roman Catholic Church, centered in Rome, extended its influence into every aspect of European society and culture. Due to the increasing power, wealth, and selfishness, a squall of criticism against the church broke out during the Late Middle Ages. Martin Luther and his Lutherans followers led a revolt against the Roman Catholic Church which helped with the creation of The Ninety-Five Theses. The beginning of the European religious problems came in the fourteenth century, when the King, Pope, and Clergy began to gain massive amounts of power and wealth. The idea of medieval Christendom was a newer concept which is basically a Christian commonwealth led by the papacy. As the church tried to create this Christendom, theorists argued that the church was only a spiritual body and therefore its power did not extend to the political realm. The theorists along with the people said that the state needed no guidance from the papacy and that the clergy was not above secular law. The church was becoming more corrupt by the day, which included: nepotism (appointing ones relative to office), pursuit of personal wealth by the bishops, and sexual indulgence of the clergy. Theologians attacked the churches authority by arguing that the church did not control an individual’s destiny, instead by accepting God’s gift of faith. I think this is a very important move by the theologians, because they are sharing similar beliefs to me. I think my church and preacher are very important but not more important the God. With the advent of Lutheranism, personal faith, rather than adherence to the practices of the church, became central to the religious life of European Protestants. The Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century ushered in a spiritual revolution that had a great impact on the western world. The starting point for the reformation was Luther’s attack in 1517 on the church’s practice of selling indulgences. The Roman Catholic Church taught hat some people go directly to heaven or hell, while others go to heaven only after spending time in purgatory (a period of expiation necessary for those who have sinned excessively). Later in 1517, a Dominican friar named John Tetzel was selling indulgences in the area near Wittenberg. Luther launched his attack against Tetzel and the selling of indulgences by tacking his Ninety-five Theses to the door of the Wittenberg castle church. Luther’s t heses, or propositions, challenged the entire concept of selling indulgences not only as a fraudulent practice but also as a theologically unsafe postulation. At the heart of Martin Luther’s argument in The Ninety-five Theses was the belief that the individual achieves salvation through central religious feeling, a sense of repentance for sins, and a faith in God’s mercy, and that the church attendance, fasting, pilgrimages, charity, and other works did not earn salvation. The church held that both faith and good works were necessary for salvation. Luther insisted that every individual could discover the meaning of the Bible unaided by the clergy. This again was a contradicting idea of that of the Roman Catholic Church, as they believed only the clergy could read and interpret the Bible properly. I think these early defining ideas from Martin Luther were very powerful. I think a lot of people bought into these theses not only because they were believable, but because they could witness the wrongs that the church were committing. Luther argued that each person could directly and freely receive faith from God. Martin Luther’s ninety-five theses had a major effect on religion and culture in early western civilization. I do not think religion would be like it would today if Martin Luther hadn’t led his Lutherans and present his theses. In the fourteenth century, religion was basically all formed into one, especially in Europe. I think all societies in Europe, were part of the Catholic Church. Religion might not have ever broke apart and became their own version of faith with multiple Gods and ideas, if not for Martin Luther. If Martin Luther did not have the courage to act and speak out against something as important as religion, then Catholics, Baptists, Protestants, and Lutherans might very well be completely different or even nonexistent. I ike how Martin Luther wrote his theses by quoting scriptures and adding facts to support his campaign and show Europeans what they had believed and witnessed for so long, but lacked valor to reform. I think it is very significant for people to know about the ninety-five theses and how it helped change and shape religion in early European culture. I really enjoyed reading and writing about Martin Luther and his reformation because I have a strong belief in freedom of religion. I do not think religion should ever be force on someone, and that it should only be something chosen to participate in.

Social Housing Providers And Homelessness Social Work Essay Essay Example

Social Housing Providers And Homelessness Social Work Essay Essay Example Social Housing Providers And Homelessness Social Work Essay Essay Social Housing Providers And Homelessness Social Work Essay Essay In seeking to compose a study on the impact that societal lodging suppliers have had on turn toing the issue of homelessness in the UK it is to be appreciated that there are a figure of important issues to be dealt with with a position to deciding this complex societal job. Chiefly there is a demand to recognize that a figure of factors serve to act upon cases of homelessness originating including household dislocation, intoxicant or drug abuse, eviction, or mental and physical wellness that are all important societal issues on their ain to be resolved but are merely made all the more complex to decide in position of their links with homelessness. With this in head, it will be recognised that societal lodging suppliers by and large seek to promote relocation of persons made homeless to carry through the purpose of assisting to decide this issue and offer support whilst besides empower people to pull on their ain accomplishments and cognition to so do their attempts at happening adjus tment more successful. It is so necessary to see the impact upon societal lodging suppliers through the consideration of three specific illustrations by manner of practical instance surveies before looking to reason with a sum-up of the cardinal points derived from this treatment in relation to their critical success factors for accomplishing a decrease in the degree of homelessness within society. ( 2 ) Introduction Having recognised the country to be discussed in relation to societal lodging suppliers as being the demand to look to efficaciously turn to the issue of homelessness within society in the UK, it is necessary to first expression to sketch the cardinal issues that are to be dealt with in this respect by lodging suppliers. Then, following on from the acknowledgment of such issues that are associated with homelessness, there is a demand to look to measure the impact upon societal lodging suppliers with this in head through the consideration of a figure of illustrations so as to better exemplify the points that are made in this respect. Finally, this study will look to reason with a sum-up of the cardinal points that have been derived from this treatment of the impact societal lodging suppliers have had upon the affair of homelessness with respect to what are recognised as being the critical success factors. To better exemplify the point a critical success factor refers to an component n ecessary for the accomplishment or success of the mission of an administration or single undertaking ( Boynlon A ; Zmud, 1984 ) . For illustration, a critical success factor related to homelessness is user engagement i.e. in other words, stateless people responding and being proactive in relation to the affair of societal lodging suppliers supplying them with places and declarations to their other associated jobs. ( 3 ) Issues With a position to recognizing the issues involved with societal lodging suppliers efficaciously deciding jobs of homelessness it is to appreciated that this is a multi faceted job that has come to be good noted by a considerable figure of different research workers as a much more complex issue than merely happening adjustment ( Anderson A ; Tulloch, 2000 ) . On this footing, it has been recognised that cases of homelessness can originate from out of a figure of factors including household dislocation, intoxicant or drug abuse, eviction, or mental and physical wellness that can besides present important jobs ( Lemos, 1999 ) . In each single instance as it arises such troubles can function to do it well more complex to look to resettle single citizens into their ain adjustment in the event of their holding been recognised as homeless by the local governments ( Pearl, 1997 ) . Problems in this respect are so really frequently merely farther compounded by the troubles that are found to be inherently involved with remaining in impermanent adjustment like a inn. The ground for this is that there is a demand to understand that some inn adjustment can be said to move as a farther complication as opposed to a benefit for those desiring to resettle into the community in independent adjustment ( Clapham, 2005 ) . By manner of illustration, faculty members including Galchagan A ; Wallace ( 2001 ) have served to propose that before an person can be resettled a drawn-out procedure of going unsettled may hold led to a individual being homeless and in impermanent adjustment so that this so serves to intend that the affair of homelessness has come to be something of a revolving door procedure ( Galchagan A ; Wallace, 2001, p.2 ) . On this footing, societal lodging suppliers by and large seek to promote relocation of persons that have been made homeless to carry through the purpose of assisting to more efficaciously decide this issue and offer support whilst besides functioning to authorise people to pull on their ain accomplishments and cognition to be able to so do their attempts at happening adjustment well more of a success ( Clapham, 2005 ) . The ground for this is that it has been recognised that without support faculty members including Schofield ( 1999, at p.3 ) have come to propose that certain groups like those with mental wellness jobs will stop up sing the same jobs. In add-on, it is besides to be noted that the Homelessness Directorate of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister ( 2002 ) has antecedently served to foreground the fact there is excessively small information presently available with respect to the extent with which cases of repetition homelessness have arisen although it should be not ed that the figures that have been generated from certain local governments have served to gauge this figure could be at least 20-30 % of all instances originating to be decided upon ( Cave, 2007 ) . With this in head, Schofield so looks to reason that non merely is this really frequently something of a crushing blow to the non inconsiderable recognised hopes and aspirations of a stateless individual but it besides incurs an unbelievable cost imposed by occupancy failure and excess clip spent in impermanent adjustment, which is necessarily more expensive for the person involved ( Schofield, 1999, at p.3 ) . ( 4 ) Impact on Social Housing characteristics With respect to the impact upon societal lodging suppliers, in relation to the affair of lodgings allotment more by and large, Parts VI and VII of the Housing Act 1996 govern the manner councils allocate their lodging and how they should help those designated as being homeless. The Homelessness Act 2002 so served to amend the Housing Act 1996 at Parts VI and VII so the processs for using for ( and the allotment of ) lodging were revised along with the responsibilities owed by councils to those recognised as confronting homelessness in the UK. As a consequence, societal lodging suppliers have been actively encouraged to take part in undertaking homelessness by functioning to place a Homelessness Champion and besides develop their ain schemes for battling this all excessively copiously complex societal job to be engaged their precedences and partnerships. For illustration, the Bath A ; North East Somerset Council Homelessness Strategy, 2008-2013 ( 2008 ) recognised Knightstone Housi ng Association and Somer Community Housing Trust are the country s chief local lodging suppliers although the figure of leases has been diminishing ( e.g. 79 in 2005/06 fell to 55 in 2006/07 ) . Therefore, the council felt it was necessary to work with suppliers to better maximize leases to homeless people since societal lodging is accessed by registering on the local authorization s online pick based leases scheme Homesearch . As of 2008 there were over six thousand people registered with the Bath A ; North East Somerset Council about two tierces of which necessitating one sleeping room places but the job is that leases have diminished in the last five old ages so demand for lodging far outstrips supply ( Bath A ; North East Somerset Council, 2008 ) . A farther illustration of societal lodging suppliers work arose when more than 100 lodging associations situated in the North West sought to undertake the affair of homelessness through the constitution of a set of committednesss in the tally up to Christmas 2009. To this consequence a study by the North West Housing Association entitled The North West s Housing Associations Our Committednesss to Tackling Homelessness ( 2009 ) has found there are merely non sufficient places available in the part. That this has proved to be the instance is marked by the fact waiting lists for a societal place have increased by over 50 % in the last five old ages and will increase even more due to the economic downswing ( National Housing Federation, 2009 ) . However, to better trade with the job good over 100 lodging associations have signed up to the aforesaid committednesss since they jointly manage over 450,000 places to organize a homelessness scheme. This is brooding of the fact it is possible for them to work together to vouch lodging associations and local governments work together to present cardinal services, supply support and offer solutions to undertake homelessness by placing and covering with factors that cause the job in the first topographic point including worklessness , fiscal exclusion, anti-social behavior and low educational attainment ( National Housing Federation, 2009 ) . But lodging associations in the part are already assisting undertake homelessness in many ways as the study included in the aforesaid study found 74 % provide entree to preparation to increase renters opportunities of employment ; 76 % have linked up with recognition brotherhoods ; and 98 % of associations offer their renters entree to a lodging advice service with a position to offering aid to those who do lose their places ( North West Housing Association, 2009 ) . Another illustration arose in the Liverpool part with the Riverside Project ( 2009 ) will increase low-cost places supply to people within the part, offer comfy adjustment for those people who are likely to be stateless and offer tailored lodging and support services ( a ) set uping a mark to construct 2,000 new low-cost places between 2008/2011 ; ( B ) supplying first-class supported lodging services to our 3,000 bing service users and by bettering the quality of our lodging stock by accomplishing what are recognised as Decent Homes marks ; ( degree Celsius ) doing suited adjustment available to appliers that are stateless ; ( vitamin D ) looking to develop new strategies for supported lodging as set out in the concern program and vouching specialist proviso for the homeless is delivered to run into the demands of the wider community ; ( vitamin E ) developing our bing drifting support services and furthering internal and external links with cardinal spouses ; ( degree Fahrenheit ) guaranteeing that local schemes allow us to see the demands of the homeless and those that are threatened with homelessness ; ( g ) working to cut down overcrowding by runing a sensitive allotments policy and optimizing stock s best usage by back uping renters who are under busying to travel to more appropriate adjustment ; ( H ) back uping the development of strategies for local and national mobility ; ( I ) providing or facilitating AIDSs and versions and working together with other bureaus to assist handicapped people remain at place. ( 5 ) Decision In seeking to reason this study on the impact that societal lodging suppliers have had on turn toing the issue of homelessness in the UK it is to be appreciated that one of the most important critical success factors is user engagement. Therefore, it is incumbent upon societal lodging suppliers to look to promote those who are stateless ( or those who might be made homeless ) to use their services with a position to staying feasible members of society. The ground for this is that, in concurrence with local governments in the UK, societal lodging suppliers have looked to non merely cover with the issue of homelessness that serves to plague our society. However, whilst societal lodging suppliers have doubtless looked to help the homeless in a assortment of ways, as the illustration of the Bath A ; North East Somerset Council Homelessness Strategy, 2008-2013 ( 2008 ) has served to exemplify the figure of leases by societal lodging suppliers has really been diminishing at a clip when p eople are arguably at there most vulnerable in position of the hapless economic system. Therefore, as has already recognised possibly the most important critical success factor for deciding the issue of homelessness is for societal lodging suppliers to look to work with the local governments to break trade with peoples demands within a peculiar part.

Problems With the New PSAT Your Questions, Answered

Problems With the New PSAT Your Questions, Answered SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips The College Board had some issues with the new PSAT, including late score reports from their Fall 2015 test. Here, we’ll talk about whether these problems will affect you, and we’ll point you in the right direction if you still have issues getting your scores. PSAT scores are especially important to high school juniors who are hoping to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. If you're a high school junior, you’ll want to make sure you read our NMS score section - we’ll answer all your questions about National Merit Semifinalist cutoffs. Finally, we’ll talk a bit about what this means for theCollege Boardin general. This isn’t the first problem that they’ve had with their standardized tests in recent years - could this delay in score reports speak to more serious problems with the maker of the SAT? Read on to find out! Slow Score Reports: What Happened? As you may already know, students who took the October 2015 PSAT had to deal with delayed score reports. These late scores were most frustrating for high school juniors who were hoping to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. Here's what happened: Over 4 million students took the new PSATin fall 2015and were supposed to get their scores back by the end of 2015. It turns out that scores weren't officially released until January of 2016, about a month later than expected. At the time of release, many students and counselors who were trying to access the site reported that it was running very slowly, probably due to heavy traffic. All in all, it sounds like it was a pretty frustrating experience. Perhaps even more frustrating? It seems that students are still having trouble accessing their scores, even after their official release. OnJanuary 21, some test-takers were told that their scores were still "delayed," and it would be another 5-7 days before they'd have access to them. The College Board explained that additional delays were due to their new online score report system. They claim that scores are indeed available, but new protocols for actually accessing the scores are â€Å"confusing† students and counselors. If you're looking for solutions, you've come to the right place. How Does This Affect You, and What Should You Do About It? This score report delay affected high school students who took the PSAT in October of 2015. If you haven't already, you may be anxious to check your PSAT for a variety of reasons. Here, we'll break down common issues you might run into if you can't get your scores, in addition to the steps you can take to remedy these issues. Problem #1: the Lack of Access to Your Scores Is Frustrating A lack of access to your scores won't affect your scores in any way nor will it affect your eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship. We can’t help you feel better - you’re right to be frustrated! - but knowing that a delay won’t affect any important outcomes might ease some of your frustration. Problem #2: You Were Hoping to Get Score Feedback to Prep for the SAT If you’re still waiting for your scores, try taking a College Board SAT practice test. You’ll end up with a head start in SAT prep! Just rememberthat the College Board switched over to the redesigned SAT starting in March 2016 and make sure to take one of the newpractice tests. Problem #3: You Can't Figure Out If You Qualify for the National Merit Scholarship This delay won’t affect your eligibility for the scholarship, but that doesn’t change the fact that you’re anxious to learn if you qualify. Remember, though, that it's impossible to know if you qualify before the NMSC sends out letters to semifinalists - score cutoffs change from year to year, so all cutoff parameters currently available are just estimates anyway. See our next section about steps to take to get your hands on your scores, and continue reading for more info about NMS score cutoffs. Here's everything you need to know to unlockaccess to that score report. What Can You Do to Get Your Scores? If you're still waiting for delayed PSAT scores, here are the steps you should take: Make sure you have your Access/ID Code for College Board's online score report system. If you don't have this code, you can call PSAT services at 866-433-7728. Some students reported logging into the score report system, only to see a prompt telling them that their scores were delayed or that there was no record of them taking a College Board test. If this happens to you, don’t panic. Either wait a couple of days and try again or call PSAT Services. If you aren't able to access your scores and need them ASAP for a particular reason, call PSAT services (see a pattern yet?) and ask if they can expedite them. Your high school guidance counselor is likely aware of these score issues, and may have more information about how they affect students at your particular school. If you have specific questions or concerns, make an appointment to check in with this counselor. What's the Deal With National Merit Scholarship Score Cutoffs? Now that you know what's going on with PSAT score delays, we can get to the juicy stuff: how can you figure out whether you qualify for the National Merit Scholarship? Just to make it clear again, delays in score reports will not affect whether you qualify for the NMS. In fact, semifinalists won’t be notified of their award status until early September 2016. Even though PSAT-takers won't get official notice of their scholarship status until later this year, you're probably wondering whether you can estimate your eligibility ahead of time. The bad news? Exact score cutoffs change from year to year. This year has been extra special because along with the SAT overhaul, there's been a total change in the PSAT as well - it's scored in a completely new way. The good news is that we've been keeping track of these changes and have come up with estimated score cutoffs for National Merit Scholarship eligibility. See ourestimated PSAT score cutoffs for each state, in addition to how they compare to the â€Å"old† PSAT scoring system cutoffs. What's Going on With the College Board? Should You Avoid the SAT? Hopefully, we’ve helped you plan how to get your hands on your scores, or at the very least, reassured you that you won’t experience any long-lasting consequences as a result of this delay. You may, however, be experiencing some bigger concerns about the maker of the PSAT and SAT after this fiasco. What does this delay say about the reliability of the College Board, if anything at all? First, you should know that the College Board is in the midst of a pretty significant transition -they moved from the SAT that most of you are probably most familiar with to a brandnew version of the test. January 2016 was the last month that the â€Å"old† SAT was administered. It makes sense that if there were to be technical glitches, they’d be happening now - when the College Board is switching over to a new test and new score report system. However, this transition doesn’t necessarily explain other recent issues that that the College Board has had, including: Dropping two sections of the 6/10/15 SAT test because of printing issues, leading to questions about the validity of students’ scores from that day Widespread cheating on the SATin countries where The College Board reuses previously administered tests, and cheating in the US due to a data breach Delays in reporting SAT scores to colleges, which led to issues for students who were hoping to make early application deadlines last fall So what do we think is going on? The College Board as a company might be experiencing general organizational, operational, and technical issues as they attempt to update themselves to stay relevant in the standardized testing business. These issues are major, yes, but they shouldn’t necessarily dissuade you from taking the SAT if it’s the right test for you. That being said, the new SAT is looking a lot more like the ACT than it used to - if you’re very concerned about technological issues and/or delays affecting your test or your scores, you might look into taking the ACT in addition to (or even in lieu of) the SAT. That doesn’t mean, however, that the ACT hasn’t had its fair share of issues and delays. Ultimately, here's our advice about the best approach to the SAT:take the test (or tests) that’s right for you. At a certain point, it seems that a degree of technological and organizational issues is unavoidable, but the College Board and the ACT do try to mitigate the effects their mistakes have on test takers. For example, during one of the last SAT crises (the printing issues in the 6/10/15 test), the College Board analyzed all viable options for responding, which included: A) Adjusting the curves on the exam B) Canceling all scores for the test C) Dropping the particular sections that were affected, and calculating scores based on students' performance on the other sections In this particular case, The College Board chose Option C - students didn't have to retake the test, and their scores weren't "docked" or otherwise affected. Each situation will be different, but in general, the College Board wants to make its test-takers happy - if students are suspicious of the SAT or think the College Board isn't reliable, fewer students will choose to take the test, and that's bad for business. Sustainable Supply Chains Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Sustainable Supply Chains - Research Paper Example A more comprehensive definition of sustainability encompasses all three foundations of sustainability, including the people, economy and the environment. If only the social and environmental development is taking place that is referred to as â€Å"bearable† (Chick and Micklethwaite). If only the social and economic development is taking place, that is referred to as â€Å"equitable†, whereas, if only the environmental and economic development takes places, that is referred to as â€Å"viable† (Chick and Micklethwaite). Sustainability occurs only when all three dimensions develop simultaneously; that is, it is bearable, equitable and viable. A significant driver of this initiative is the government. The government can come up with measures such as environmental labels, licenses and product design guidelines (New Zealand Council for Sustainable Development). There are already a number of regulations in place for sustainability. These include U.S. Farm security and rural investment act (2002), European Union’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), China ROHS, E.U. Cosmetics directive, E.U. Packaging Directive, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and REACH. In addition there are International Standards such as WRAP, FLA, ICTI CARE, ISO 14000 and ISO 26000 for addressing environmental causes (Business for Social Responsibility). For successfully realizing a sustainable supply chain, an organization needs to go through five major steps. The first if Business Case Development which requires looking at the external environment and study case studies of companies which have done so successfully in the past. An analysis should be done of the differences before and after this implementation (United Nations Global Impact). These initiatives have to be driven by the top management. After this study a commitment has to be made by the board members to work on the same. The second is â€Å"Risk, Gap and Scope assessment† wh ich appreciates the fact that the sustainable supply chain initiative has a number of risks which could have a short term impact on finances or new operational bottlenecks. These risks have to be listed and mitigation plans have to be developed. A gap analysis between the current state and future state is required so that efforts could be made to bridge the gap. It is also essential to decide the scope of the initiative at this stage in line with organizational strategies and priorities (United Nations Global Impact). The third step is Supply chain identification which requires an internal assessment of the firm’s supply chain. The position that the company’s supply chain holds relative to other supply chains needs to be assessed (New Zealand Council for Sustainable Development). The next step is Implementation. In this step, the expectations of the organization are communicated to suppliers, distributors and all other partners in the upstream and downstream supply cha ins. Internal operations are realigned to adjust to the new priorities. The organizations try to build strategic partnerships if required to realize its goals. These may include partnerships with third party logistic providers, IT outsourcing firms, consultants and so on (Nunes, Junior and Ramos). Next, Measurement is done whereby new metrics have to be introduced to track performance on

Anatomy and Physiology Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Anatomy and Physiology - Essay Example It also provides the protective outer layer of the body itself (the skin), which also serves as our first line of defense (immune system) against microbes. Connective tissue is quite self explanatory as it does just that, connects and supports tissue with other tissue. For example, our ligaments and tendons are essential in connecting bones and joints for functional movement. There is more than one type of muscle tissue. The term muscle tissue encompasses cardiac muscle tissue, smooth muscle tissue and skeletal muscle tissue. Cardiac muscle tissue makes up the heart which is responsible for pumping oxygenated blood to all of our tissue and organs. Skeletal muscle tissue is composed of actin - myosin filaments which act in a manner that can be described as lengthening and contracting. The quadriceps of the legs and biceps of the arms are examples of skeletal muscle tissue. Smooth muscle tissue is a tissue which works constantly and is involuntary. Neurons are very specific and complex cells which make up the nervous system. They are easily diagramed in 3 parts: The axon, the dendrites and the cell body. The nervous system is composed of neurons and is like the electrical system of the body. It was before mentioned that the skin is the body’s first line of defense as well as a protective outer covering. Mucous membranes are the next line of defense in safe guarding the body against microorganisms. Mucus itself serves as a sort of trap for capturing incoming pathogens and then a means of expelling them from the body. This is why we have excessive mucus and drainage during a cold or â€Å"the flu†. The body has two types of glands known as endocrine glands and exocrine glands. The difference in these two glands is that endocrine glands are ductless while exocrine glands are essentially ducts that connect to anatomical surfaces. Most of the ducts in the body are in fact exocrine.
